Usenet and Email Hypertext ========================== A good first start is to get everyone using something like setext_ which lets you embed simple structure into the document without getting in the way for people that don't have browsers_. You'll note that this document uses setext_ to include headers and hypertext links but I bet you have hardly noticed it. The important aspect is that the text is both human and machine readable. For a Demo ---------- You can view this article through my setext -> HTML converter_ by opening http://www.bsdi.com/setext/usenet-email.etx For more Information -------------------- Check out the various documents about setext_ by Ian Feldman. typotags.txt_ is a good overview of the tags available (headers, bold, italic, underlined, hypertext). setext_ is really quite simple, it can't be used for arbitrary documents but for Email and Usenet it's really quite sufficient and efficient. Hypertext Links, Still a Problem -------------------------------- setext_ doesn't address the issue of how to FIND hypertext links to other documents but it does make presenting them in simple text much more bearable. --sanders_ .. _typotags.txt http://www.bsdi.com/setext/typotags.txt .. _setext http://www.bsdi.com/setext .. _sanders http://www.bsdi.com/hyplan/sanders.html .. _converter http://www.bsdi.com/server/util/setext.pl .. _browsers http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html
